DEF has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in Ideal storage conditions: a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. DEF starts decomposing at a temperature above 86°F, and starts freezing below 12°F. Once thawed the product can be used normally.
Urea solution is incompatible with certain materials; it may cause corrosion of metals and also damage some kind of plastics. All the materials utilized to build storage and delivery tanks and dispensing units, including hoses, nozzles, pumps, and other accessories, must be compatible with DEF in order to avoid any contamination of the product and any damage to the equipment.

- Stainless Steel
- Polyethylene HD
- Polypropylene HD
- Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)
- Perfluoroalkoxy PFA
Materials NOT compatible with DEF:
- Galvanized Iron
- Alloys of Copper, Zinc, Lead, Brass, Bronze…
- Alluminum, Magnesium, Nichel
